Dear Fellow Residents and Friends of Angwin:

It seems hard to believe that a year has passed since we conducted our 2008 fundraising drive for the Angwin Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD).  During the last year, our volunteer fire department continues to work hard and train even harder.  In 2008, our members donated over 15,000 duty hours in emergency responses, 200 plus hours of training, and more than 100 hours of community education programs.  That is the equivalent of more than eight full time employees for a full year.  These volunteer hours save you, the county tax payers over two million dollars annually.  As we enter the latter part of the year, we find ourselves at the beginning stages of replacing our 1989 front line fire engine.  This vehicle has served our community for almost two decades and is in need of replacement.  In addition, we face the ongoing expenses of maintaining our facility and of meeting the many unfunded mandates passed down by federal, state, and local authorities.  The current funding that the Napa County Board of Supervisors provides falls about thirty percent short of the annual cost of maintaining our equipment and supplies.  Therefore, we conduct fund raising activities, like this, to make up the shortfall in our annual budget.

We appreciate the tough economic times that we are in, and find it difficult to ask for money.  However, we invite our community members and friends to continue to support this invaluable service, so that our fire department can efficiently answer our over two hundred calls for service.

Sincerely yours,

Avery A. Browne

AVFD Chief
