A Letter from the Coummuity Council

ACC Logo

Dear Angwin Community member,

It’s that time of year again, time to remember the 35+ members of Angwin Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) and all they have done for us and our neighbors in the Angwin Community this year!

I asked Avery Browne, Fire Chief, if I could write the annual letter asking the Angwin Community for a generous donation to the AVFD this year-I was happy that he said yes!

In Community Council meetings, we often discuss issues that impact the AVFD. During these times I am always interested in hearing statistics that affect us in the community. A couple of months ago, I found it very interesting when Avery told us that if Angwin had to pay just wages, (excluding healthcare benefits and retirement) to a crew as large as Angwin’s, it would cost 3.9 million dollars a year to provide a department the size of the one that we have.

The AFVD also provides one firefighter for every 99.9 Angwin residents. Most communities have one firefighter for every 100K residents.

Included in the 1500 plus-hours that the AVFD volunteers have given to our community this year are hundreds and hundreds of hours in training and actual emergency responses, fire prevention classes that have introduced school-aged children in local schools to fire prevention in the way of demonstrations and instruction and the recent Flu Shot Clinic, sponsored by the department. A Teen Driver Safety Class and a “Safe Routes to School” program were some of the additional curriculum that the AVFD offered this year. Members of the AVFD have also worked with the Angwin Ambulance crew to get AED devices installed in prominent public meeting areas around the Angwin community.

As time goes on, state and federal mandates become more frequent, as state and federal funding amounts become less. Since the fire department’s expenses are not decreasing, your support of the AVFD continues to be even more crucial this year, than in years past.

There, every time we need them, the AVFD makes our community a safer, healthier and better informed community.

Please make your gift to the fire department, a generous one, this year. Thank you in advance for supporting the very individuals who are there for you-365 days a year!

Best regards and Happy Holidays,

Kellie J. Lind
Interim, ACC president
