Red Flag

A Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service and means warm temperatures, very low humidities, and stronger winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger. 

During Red Flag Warnings a "High Fire Danger" flag will be placed at the corner of Howell Mountain Road and College Avenue. 

BE PREPARED

 

Your Car

 

  • Fuel up your car

  • Point your car heading out

  • Know where your keys are 

 

Your Home
  • Detach your garage door from the automatic control mechanism

  • Unlock or open your gate

  • Test your generator

  • Test your hoses and make sure you have 100’ of hose available

  • Clear off deck and porch of flammable material

    • Cushions and furniture

    • Wood

    • Pull barbeque and propane tank away from your home (30’) or more

  • Remove material up against your home

  • Check gutters and roof for debris

  • Close doors and windows

You & Your Family
  • Place your go-bag at your front door or in your car.

  • Put your evacuation tag with your go-bag.

    • Place the tag on your gate as you leave if ordered to evacuate

  • Charge your phone. LEAVE YOUR PHONE ON NEXT TO YOUR BED, PLUGGED IN, WITH RINGER ON!

  • Make sure you're subscribed to Nixle

  • Charge your backup phone battery

  • Have a ready to use and powerful LED flashlight with extra batteries

  • Have a crank-up radio.

    • Tune in 1440 AM and 99.3 FM for emergency information

DO NOT

 

  • Do not do yard work after 10:00 AM

  • Do not use metal blade power tools on grass

  • Do not park your recently operated car over dry seasonal grass

  • Do not open burn - anything
